Brooklyn Proud | Greenpoint Fish & Lobster

This year marks the 40th anniversary of Broadway Stages. In celebration of our 40th trip around the sun, we are shining the spotlight on the heart of our community – the local businesses that provide the essential or simply enjoyable, goods and services that allow us to thrive and delight in this great city we call home. We begin the series in our beloved Brooklyn with a look at the local shops that line our streets, providing a livelihood for our neighbors, family, and friends. Join us on our journey and get to know the people and businesses that make our community home. Today, we feature one of the best local fish markets and restaurants in Brooklyn, the Greenpoint Fish & Lobster Co.

A group of 5th generation fishmongers, who are “always down to talk fish” opened their flagship establishment, Greenpoint Fish & Lobster Co. in 2014 – Brian McGovern, Orion Russell, Peter Juusola, and Vinny Milburn.  Their fresh fish can be found anywhere from the kitchens of local fish-loving friends to the counters of Michelin Star chefs.

With a keen focus on sustainability, Greenpoint Fish & Lobster takes a holistic approach to business based on the concept of balance.  Fishing responsibly, understanding the sea and its seasons, avoiding overfished wild stocks, respecting and enhancing the health of the ocean, and using the entire fish!  These guys have it down to a science and let nothing go to waste!

Their flagship store at the corner of Nassau Ave and Eckford Street in Greenpoint, is a unique combination of fish-market and restaurant, that has received high praise from well-known restaurant critics.  Visit the restaurant for oysters on the half shell, lobster rolls, tuna burgers and more. If you prefer to cook at home, you can shop at the market for sustainable seafood.

Today, you can also find their fresh seafood at Threes Brewing on Franklin Ave. in Greenpoint, and their newest location, Greenpoint Fish @ The Hugh, in the Citi Group building in midtown Manhattan.  And they even offer wholesale service for NYC based restaurants, caterers, and hospitality providers. They carry a full line of fresh, frozen, and live products, shipping daily from their 11,000 square foot refrigerated warehouse in Greenpoint.

We are grateful to have such a dedicated and responsible seafood establishment right here in Brooklyn.  Thanks to our fishmongers at Greenpoint Fish & Lobster for keeping it sustainable and supporting our community!
