Brooklyn Proud | Action City Comics

This year marks the 40th anniversary of Broadway Stages. In celebration of our 40th trip around the sun, we are shining the spotlight on the heart of our community – the local businesses that provide the essential or simply enjoyable goods and services that allow us to thrive and delight in this great city we call home. We begin the series in our beloved Brooklyn by looking at the local shops that line our streets, providing a livelihood for our neighbors, family, and friends. Join us on our journey and get to know the people and businesses that make our community home. Today, we take a look at a local shop that is a gateway to adventure for young and veteran fans alike — Action City Comics.

Bang! Smash! Pow!

The pandemic had a big impact on everyone and while some situations were dire, for a few lucky folks, it was an opportunity to follow their dream. And that is exactly what happened to Greenpoint resident Eric LaGaccia.  He was working as an accountant for a hotel when the pandemic hit. One thing led to another, and he decided it was the perfect time to follow his dreams —  to follow in his father’s footsteps and open up his own comic shop.  In March 2021, our local superhero, did just that! He took the bull by the horns and founded Action City Comics

“Comic shops have always been about community,” said LaGaccia. “They’re about hanging out, talking comics.” “I love the focus on community in Greenpoint,” he said. “The neighborhood has been so supportive.”

LaGaccia specifically tailored his shop to cater to the longtime comic fan, as well as families and people just getting into the hobby. With a broad collection spanning time and category, Action City Comics has been delighting enthusiasts across NYC for two years now! Customers can find the newest releases of all of their favorite series, rare gems, and even backorder specific products they’re eager to get their hands on. LaGaccia also sells a range of toys, posters, and fan-favorite games — including classics like Dungeons and Dragons, as well as popular trading cards like Pokémon.

The shop operates seven days per week from 11 am to 8 pm, so you will have no trouble browsing the collection whenever you get the desire. Curious shoppers can also head over to their Instagram and Facebook pages to get a heads-up on new inventory and general goings-on at the shop!

At Broadway Stages we love to promote local businesses — large, small and in between. And we are a big fan of superheroes, especially those in our community that generate economic growth and provide jobs.  We hope we have peaked your interest!  Even if you are — ahem — not into comics, we are certain you will enjoy a visit to Action City Comics, and when you get there, be sure to tell them that Broadway Stage sent you.
