Brooklyn Proud | Peter Pan Donut & Pastry Shop

This year marks the 40th anniversary of Broadway Stages. In celebration of our 40th trip around the sun, we are shining the spotlight on the heart of our community – the local businesses that provide the essential or simply enjoyable, goods and services that allow us to thrive and delight in this great city we call home, and where Broadway Stages operates. Our first stop is our beloved Brooklyn. The local shops that line our streets, providing a livelihood for our neighbors, family and friends. Join us as we journey throughout Brooklyn, and get to know the people and businesses that make our community home. We begin our series with a delicious icon, Peter Pan Donut & Pastry Shop.

If you’re from Greenpoint or if you’ve ever visited, you most certainly have heard of Peter Pan Donut & Pastry Shop. You may have also seen it on the big screen.  This is the place where “Spider-Man: No Way Home” starring Tom Holland, Zendaya and Benedict Cumberbatch was filmed. This family business has been serving the finest donuts and baked treats for over 60 years. You heard that right – six decades!  It’s a place that locals hold dear, and new residents go to as a rite of passage.  More than thirty years ago, Donna Siafakas and her husband Christos took over the bakery but that’s about the only change that has taken place in 60 plus years.

The recipe they use today is the same, and these delicious classic donuts come in 20 varieties from sour cream and jelly to chocolate, glazed, cream filled, and more!  In the summertime, they even make donut ice cream sandwiches. YUMM! In addition to donuts, the shop offers amazing eclairs, cinnamon buns, muffins, bagels, savory breakfast sandwiches, and other delicious sweet treats. All available to bring a smile your face seven days a week. The S-shaped counter is classic, as are the uniforms worn by the staff (bright green and pink).  With more than 10 employees, Peter Pan also provides a livelihood to those that call it their work home.

If you’ve not had the privilege of enjoying a donut or other delectable treat from Peter Pan, you really need to head over to 727 Manhattan Avenue. And when you get there, tell them that Broadway Stages sent you.
