This year marks the 40th anniversary of Broadway Stages. In celebration of our 40th trip around the sun, we are shining the spotlight on the heart of our community – the local businesses that provide the essential or simply enjoyable goods and services that allow us to thrive and delight in this great city we call home. We continue our series in the borough where it all began, Queens, and feature the local establishments that line our streets, providing our neighbors, family, and friends a livelihood. Forty years ago, Broadway Stages got its humble start on Broadway Street in Queens. We have long been proud member of the Queens community, a borough full of great neighborhoods and people. Sunnyside Community Services (SCS) exemplifies what it is to be a great neighbor.

For nearly fifty years, SCS, a nonprofit organization, has been providing support to a diverse community of all ethnicities, income levels, and ages. Today, they serve approximately 14,000 individuals per year throughout Queens.

For teens and young adults, their services include pre-kindergarten and after-school programs, college prep, and career programs. For seniors, there is a vibrant center for older adults, dedicated home care services, and support and assistance for family caregivers. And for people with cognitive and physical impairments, they provide a social adult day program.

SCS knows that their success depends on great volunteers. And they have some of the best. In 2020, Sunnyside Community Services was recognized as a Service Enterprise by Points of Light — the world’s largest organization dedicated to volunteer service.
