Broadway Stages Backs Southside United's Sustainable Housing Mission

Logo-Transparent-Background.png

Brooklyn's Southside United (SU) offers sustainable housing and social services to create rehabilitation opportunities for Williamsburg residents. The organization advises Brooklyn residents on their housing rights, responsibilities in civic engagements, and citywide resources.

SU consists of three departments that address different community issues. The Real Estate Development Department acquires and develops housing units for local residents. The Tenant and Community Organizing Department resolves housing issues. Lastly, the Social Services Department provides counseling and advocates on behalf of current and former residents.

These departments are funded in part by the SU Annual Fundraiser Reception. Broadway Stages President Gina Argento is a firm believer in the power of community support and improvement programs. Gina expressed her gratitude to SU's amazing commitment to Brooklyn by donating to the fundraiser so that SU can achieve even more for Williamsburg. Helping the Brooklyn community is just another day for Gina!

Highlights from the celebration included live entertainment, arts and crafts, photo booths, contests, carnival snacks, and of course the crowning of the homecoming king and queen. Gina Argento, board member for Kingsborough Community College and CEO of Broadway Stages, was amazed by the enormous turnout and wonderful success of the event. Gina donated to the event to show her support, and as expected the diligently planned activities were amazingly popular with attendees. There could not have been a better day to bring together scholars and model citizens to celebrate them as the leaders of tomorrow.

Neighbors for Allied Good Growth (NAG) encourages Greenpoint residents and businesses to come together to improve their community. Broadway Stages was happy to support their annual gala and fundraiser this year.

Founded in 1994, NAG targets environmental preservation, social work, and economic stability to rehabilitate the Northside Waterfront region. NAG properly allocates resources to ensure community partnerships, like the 10-year partnership community plan between Greenpoint and Williamsburg Waterfront calling for the protection of affordable housing, environmental stewardship, and job creation.

The annual gala and fundraiser is essential to securing more community partnerships through NAG. Gina Argento, CEO of Broadway Stages in Greenpoint, looks to amplify the community benefits received from NAG programs and partnerships by contributing to NAG's fundraiser.

Her contributions will help NAG finance future community opportunities that will positively benefit businesses, individuals, and the natural environment of North Brooklyn. She encourages you to do what you can for your community by uniting with your neighbors to bring about positive change.

At the core of every New York City Community is a YMCA ready to serve the youth and families of each neighborhood. With the mission to improve the health and body of each individual, especially youths of the next generation, the YMCA dedicates a plethora of programs to provide unlimited opportunities to grow future community leaders. YMCA programs foster the growth of teamwork, critical thinking, and friendship.

Critical to the operation of YMCA community programs is the support received from the community itself. Sharing similar philosophies as the YMCA, Gina Argento, President of Broadway Stages, believes that programs that promote community adhesion will ultimately lead to positive influences. As a financial sponsor to the Greenpoint YMCA, Gina has helped finance the new hardwood floors in the basketball courts, the continued operations of after-school enrichment programs, and summer camps for Greenpoint families. With support from local Brooklynites like Gina and yourself, Greenpoint families can enjoy YMCA programs for free!

Broadway Stages Is Excited to Support the Community-Word Project in 2018

comunity_word_logo_head_3.jpg

The Community-Word Project (CWP) inspires thousands of young students in numerous communities to explore and develop their creative arts. The CWP focuses on providing New York children with a stimulating arts curriculum to encourage self development while integrating critical discovery of personal art and personal learning.

The sponsored classroom programs collaborate with visual artists, writers, musicians, photographers, and theater performers, making sure that students can participate in a variety of art forms to expand their creative nature. In fact, each student is able to intimately engage in and explore different forms of art thanks to the student-to-teacher 6-1 ratio central to CWP learning styles. The CWP ultimately seeks to build a community for young people to learn and contribute to the New York arts scene.

Gina Argento, President of Broadway Stages, seeks to enrich the artistic education of over 2,500 students across 22 schools. She is excited to have helped support the project, which has positively impacted students for 19 years. Her sponsorship of the annual CWP benefit Writing Our Future helped raise over $160,000 from the New York community. This year's amazing dedication from community members propels CWP to reach even more students and schools. Gina is excited that more students will receive high-quality artistic education lessons this year and hopes you can join her and the CWP community to reach even more students next year.

Broadway Stages President Contributes to St. Francis Genovesi Scholarship

Centrepreneur.jpg

Gina Argento, CEO of Broadway Stages, is excited to add the St. Francis Genovesi Scholarship to the list of sponsored scholarships to which she contributes. Believing in providing students with access to quality educational resources, Gina wishes to eliminate or significantly reduce financial barriers to educational opportunities for students.

One of the most effective ways she has found to address this is by contributing to school-sponsored scholarships such as the St. Francis Genovesi Scholarship. Recipients of the scholarship will be able to subsidize tuition or related costs like textbooks. Scholarships are highly beneficial because they lessen students' financial uncertainty, allowing them to solely focus on their academic studies. She is enthusiastic to continue to contribute to St. Francis scholarships, as she has done in the past, and looks forward to continue working with St. Francis for the benefit of its students.

Broadway Stages Helps Students Create Little Free Libraries

little-library-books.jpg

Students from the Williamsburg High School for Architecture and Design (WHSAD) have embraced their desire to learn and spread their love of reading by creating Little Free Libraries.

Little Free Libraries are small boxes open to all members of the community to exchange, take, and donate books. The Little Free Libraries are community-run library outposts that encourage the sharing of reading materials. This initiative will help inspire students to read and learn more about various subjects such as math, science, history, and more!

Gina Argento, President of Broadway Stages, donated materials and resources needed to complete the Little Free Libraries. Gina has donated to similar projects that encourage learning with books, including the Story Book Voyager. She wants to help provide students with a medium to share and inspire each other to pursue greater knowledge. Helping the WHSCAD build Little Free Libraries for students was an opportunity she could not pass up!

The Life Audrey Johnson Learning Center is an amazing Brooklyn-based childcare organization teaching children aged 2 to 5 years old. Regularly teaching 60 students at a time, the day care center’s small teaching group helps personalize each student's learning experience and provide a personal touch to child development.

This Christmas, the day care center asked the community to support its toy drive for its students. Wishing to make a difference for the benefit of the kindergarten students, Gina Argento, President of Broadway Stages, contributed to the day care's toy drive. She donated toy cars, coloring books, dolls, action figures, and much more. Each student happily selected his or her gift of choice and was excited to play with it! Gina was happy to see children receive the gifts they wanted and hopes they enjoy the rest of their Christmas presents.

Incredible Year for Hunter College!

hunter.jpg

It has been another amazing year for Hunter College, one of New York’s leading educational institutions. This year alone Hunter College jumped from the 48th spot to the 28th "Best Regional Universities, North," a testament to its commitment to continuously improve its educational criteria.

Gina Argento, President of Broadway Stages, encourages residents to support local educational institutions. Empowering our students with quality educational resources can lead them to a life of success beyond the academic scope. Having always been a contributor to local colleges, like Hunter College and Kingsborough Community College, Gina wanted to express her belief in making education accessible to everyone. Donations like hers help make scholarship programs that open doors to learning opportunities possible. Scholarships provide students with critical educational resources that can transform their academic studies into career paths.

Gina hopes that fellow New Yorkers join her in supporting and providing undergraduate scholars with the educational tools necessary to transform their lives.

Broadway Stages Supports Local Students Through Angels Program

futuresangel1.jpg

What better way to start off the New Year than by supporting education for New York City students! As a participant in the Futures in Education Angels program, Gina Argento, CEO of Broadway Stages, helps young scholars in elementary and intermediate schools get the necessary educational resources to continue to receive a quality Catholic education.

Her contributions as an Angel significantly reduce or in some cases completely subsidize a child's educational cost. Recipient families are relived of most or all financial obligations from school tuition for their children. Gina sees her support for the Angel program as more than just helping students receive a quality education. It is a positive investment in each child.

In fact, Angels and student recipients interact on a personal level through handwritten letters and artwork. Angels can then personally see the success of each student that they support and can be more involved in helping each student be the best they can be.

Gina encourages everyone to join her in participating in the Angel program offered by Futures in Education this year and make a difference!
