Business Spotlight | Karczma Polish Restaurant

Welcome to Broadway Stages’ Business Spotlight, where we feature local shops, restaurants and venues in the communities where we have operations. We encourage our readers to join us in supporting these establishments and advancing local economic growth.

It’s no secret that Greenpoint is New York City’s de facto “Little Poland.” Since the early 19th century this northern corner of Brooklyn has housed the city’s largest Polish population. While the community has diversified over the last few decades, it’s easy to see that Greenpoint’s Polish roots are still the foundation of this culturally rich neighborhood. If you’ve spent any amount of time in Greenpint, you’ve heard people speaking the language and seen the array of longstanding Polish businesses in the area. Among those businesses is the wonderfully authentic Polish restaurant, Karczma.

Karczma (which translates to ‘tavern’ in Polish) opened up 13 years ago to much fanfare. To this day, it serves as a reminder of the neighborhood’s legacy by offering an authentic menu of traditional Polish dishes to hungry customers. For those unfamiliar with Polish food, it goes way beyond the classics like pierogis and kielbasa, Karczma’s menu is a masterclass in what Polish cuisine has to offer. From warm bread bowls of rich white Borscht to platters piled high with roasted meat and fish, there’s something for everyone!

Prior to the pandemic, Karczma’s indoor space transported diners away from the hustle and bustle of the city to a more rustic part of the world, with friendly staff sporting traditional Polish garb and an interior of dark wood with light fixtures reminiscent of a simpler time. However, you can still pop by their location any day of the week for a heated outdoor dining experience that you won’t soon forget since the quality of their food and service hasn’t missed a beat! We encourage you to check out their Instagram and Facebook pages although this may cause a craving for cuisine you can’t find just anywhere. So, what are you waiting for? Throw on your mask, head on over to Karczma and tell them Broadway Stages sent you. Na zdrowie!
