Spotlight | Staten Island Proud - Egger’s Ice Cream Shop

This year marks the 40th anniversary of Broadway Stages. In celebration of our 40th trip around the sun, we are shining the spotlight on the heart of our community – the local businesses that provide the essential or simply enjoyable goods and services that allow us to thrive and delight in this great city we call home. We continue our series in Staten Island and feature the local establishments that line our streets, providing a livelihood and rich culture for our neighbors, family, and friends. Join us as we get to know the people and organizations that make our community home. Today, we treat ourselves to a scoop or three at one of the four Egger’s Ice Cream Parlors on Staten Island!

As we head into the dog days of summer, Staten Islanders know the best way to beat the heat is at Egger’s Ice Cream Parlor. This Staten Island staple has been around since 1932. Egger’s takes its name from its original owner, Richie Egger, a trained baker from Germany. He added ice cream to the menu as an experiment, and the rest as they say, is history!

The flagship location moved to Forest Avenue in 1964. Nearly 82 years later, in 2014, West Brighton native Danielle Raleigh took ownership of the shop, equipped with fresh ideas and an enthusiastic attitude to bring Egger’s into the future.

Since 2014, Egger’s Ice Cream Parlor has expanded to include three additional locations: one in the heart of the island at Historic Richmond Town and the other at the chic and modern Urby apartment complex in Stapleton. And as of May this year, you can get the delicious handmade ice cream at Cottage C at Snug Harbor! The cottage features a la carte ice cream, freshly brewed iced hibiscus and green tea, cookies, brownies, and candies for purchase on the first floor.

Raleigh said, “After all the work and planning that goes into a new location, I am excited to see familiar Egger’s customers in this new space. We are so lucky to have such loyal customers!”

True to their roots, Egger’s offers the full gambit of classic ice cream flavors, from chocolate chip and cookies & cream to butter pecan and vanilla. But they also offer flavors of the month, like lavender honey and salted caramel pretzel. You can even enjoy your ice cream in an Egger’s igloo or host an Egger’s birthday party! For a complete list of events, flavor options, and other extraordinary confections, head over to Egger’s website.

Even though Egger’s is an old-fashioned ice cream parlor at heart, Danielle believes it’s essential to stay on-trend with the latest cake designs, contemporary flavor combinations, and ice cream to accommodate those with unique dietary restrictions, including vegan and sugar-free ice creams! Most recently, Egger’s has added ice cream catering to it’s growing list of services.

Egger’s also offers online orders for delivery and pickup. Ice cream enthusiasts can follow their Instagram and Facebook pages to check out the latest specials. So, what are you waiting for folks? It’s summer and time to head over to Egger’s for some fantastic homemade ice cream. When you get there, be sure to tell them that Broadway Stages sent you.
