"The Equalizer" Is Currently Filming and Getting Ready for a Spinoff

At Broadway Stages, we are so proud of the success of CBS's crime drama "The Equalizer," currently filming and airing its fifth season. Last month, we reported that a spinoff was in the works for the CBS hit that utilizes our Dobbin Street facility in Brooklyn. Watch exclusive behind-the-scenes footage of the cast rehearsing for the episode that will run in the spring and introduce the two new characters poised to anchor a spinoff.

Titus Welliver will be portraying Hudson Reed, a former top CIA operative with connections to Robyn McCall (Queen Latifah). Juani Feliz will play his daughter, Samantha Reed, whose father trained her to be a martial arts and weapons expert.

Welliver is well-known by television viewers for his lead role in the Prime Video series "Bosch" and its sequel "Bosch: Legacy." He also memorably played the mysterious "Man in Black" on ABC's "Lost," the cunning Silas Adams on HBO's "Deadwood," and Glenn Childs, the antagonist of the Florricks on "The Good Wife," which filmed all seven of its seasons at Broadway Stages. He has also had a successful film career, with appearances in "Gone Baby Gone" (2007), "The Town" (2010), and "Argo" (2012).

Feliz has appeared as Isabela Benitez-Santiago in all three seasons of Prime Video's "Harlem," which films at our stages. She also played Broadway star Alejandra Lopez in the FX on Hulu miniseries "Fleishman Is in Trouble." She most recently appeared as Secret Service agent Joy Butler in last year's hit film "Civil War."

The special episode introducing the two new characters will be the 16th of the season.

About "The Equalizer"

"The Equalizer" is a remake of the television show of the same name that ran on CBS for four seasons from 1985 to 1989 and starred the British actor Edward Woodward as Robert McCall. The original show spun off a highly successful film series starring Denzel Washington.

The CBS reboot starring Latifah began airing in 2021. When the show returned for its fifth season in October, all the regulars came back: Latifah as former CIA Operative Robyn McCall, Tory Kittles as NYPD detective Marcus Dante, Adam Goldberg as hacker Harry Keshegian, Liza Lapira as Robyn's longtime friend Mel Bayani, Laya DeLeon Hayes as Robyn's teen daughter Delilah, and Lorraine Toussaint as Robyn's Aunt Vi.

We last saw McCall and her friends and colleagues on December 8 in the Christmas episode "Slay Ride," the seventh of the season. Dante, McCall, and her ex-husband Miles (Stephen Bishop) spent the holiday as hostages in a hospital taken over by a cartel. Viewers hoping to see Robyn and Dante get together will have to keep waiting, as Robyn's ex is clearly not over her, setting up a potential love triangle as the show went on hiatus with a return date around Valentine's Day (February 16, to be precise). The eighth episode airing that date will be titled "Guns and Roses," and CBS's official description states: After a young girl is the victim of a shootout in her neighborhood, the team races to find out if a gang war is afoot and whether the crime is connected to a shipment of stolen guns McCall is chasing down. Meanwhile, love is in the air when Aunt Vi and Delilah prepare for their respective dates.

We are also excited to report that Latifah and Toussaint are both in the running for NAACP Image Awards this year, respectively for Outstanding Actress in a Drama Series and Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series. We are so happy for them, and we cannot wait to see what's to come as the series expands and introduces new and exciting characters.
