Broadway Stages is committed to meeting the growing needs of the film and television industry. We are always on the lookout for resources that provide ways for individuals to learn more about the industry and build relevant skills that can translate into jobs. We are excited to get the word out about the MediaMKRS - Reel Works program that creates pathways for careers in media and entertainment for young New Yorkers. Young filmmakers can connect with educators, industry and government leaders to receive training and obtain credentials through in-school or after-school programs. The comprehensive program covers: camera, editing, leadership, marketing, production, sound, storytelling, and workforce skills. Check out what the program has to offer at https://mediamkrs.credly.com/enterprise.
Check out the SI Live piece by Victoria Priola about television and film production on Staten Island. Broadway Stages is proud to be a part of the economic growth coming to the island and excited to bring major Hollywood production companies to film at its Arthur Kill Campus located in the Charleston section of Staten Island.
The campus is being designed as a full-service production facility offering ample space for film, television, and music video productions of all sizes. The location has already been home to 41 productions including "Orange is the New Black," "The Black List," "Oceans 8," and most recently "Wu Tang: An American Saga."
Brooklyn Workforce Innovations (BWI) held its annual Gala in Gotham on June 13 to celebrate the achievements of its programs, graduates, and partners who work together to connect thousands of low-income New Yorkers with training for in-demand careers. As one of the sponsors of this event, Broadway Stages congratulates BWI and its partners for their efforts in creating new possibilities for career success and supporting the television and film industry of New York.
Of the eight training programs provided by BWI, two specifically support the television and film industry — the "Made in NY" Production Assistant and Post Production training programs. A collaboration between BWI and the New York City Mayor's Office of Media and Entertainment, their mission is to give unemployed and low-income New Yorkers a chance to work in the dynamic field of film and television production whether on-set or in post-production editing video or creating visual effects. BWI helps to provide skilled labor needed to support the ever-growing industry and New York economy. Skilled labor needed to continue to attract networks to film their productions and complete post-production work in NYC.
We also congratulate those who were honored at the Gala for their role in supporting BWI's mission, including:
EXTRAORDINARY SUPPORTER Post New York Alliance
OUTSTANDING EMPLOYER Crewforce
OUTSTANDING EMPLOYER Total Transportation
OUTSTANDING EMPLOYER Picture Farm
CATALYTIC PARTNER Innovation Lab Partners

We're also excited to play host to seven television pilots (out of a total nine being filmed in New York), and a YouTube comedy pilot airing in 2019. And what a lineup of pilots it is. From an "NYPD Blue" sequel, and a reboot of "New York Undercover," to a supernatural thriller series, "The Last American Vampire," that follows a character from the popular novel Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter. There's also a series called "Evil," about the battle between science and religion – think miracles and demonic possessions – as well as a show about the FBI's Most Wanted. Then we have "Sisters," a drama based on an Australian TV series about an only child who learns that her fertility doctor father conceived dozens of children, only two of which are girls. If that's not enough, then get ready for a fictional legal/family drama [not yet named] that centers on a prisoner who becomes a lawyer, litigating cases for other inmates while fighting to overturn his own life sentence for a crime he didn't commit. And rounding out the 2019 pilots being filmed at Broadway Stages is YouTube's "It's a Man's World" (working title). The story is about a top female video game executive who, after being abruptly fired from her job, decides to start applying for gaming jobs as a man and finds herself on a noticeably easier path to success. So – there's definitely something for everyone!
Be sure to keep an eye on this year's exciting television season. Broadway Stages is thrilled to play host to these shows coming soon to your favorite entertainment watching device.
