From Horror Icon to Dramatic Depth: Evan Peters' Career Evolution and His Next Big Role

Award-winning actor Evan Peters has been in the film and television industry for more than two decades, and his career shows no signs of slowing down. He can next be seen starring in Ryan Murphy's upcoming FX series "The Beauty," which has been filming at one of our Brooklyn facilities since last fall. Based on the graphic novel series of the same name by Jeremy Haun and Jason A. Hurley, "The Beauty" follows detectives Drew Foster and Kara Vaughn as they investigate a sexually transmitted disease that brings superficial beauty to those infected but also proves lethal. The two seek to evade corrupt officials and a mercenary targeting them amidst a suspected government conspiracy.

Peters is no stranger to Broadway Stages. He co-starred in the first season of Murphy's groundbreaking series "Pose" (2018-2021), which also filmed at our facilities. His journey to becoming one of Murphy's go-to leading actors began in 2004, when he landed his first professional acting gig starring in the drama "Clipping Adam." His performance won him the award for Best Breakthrough Performance at the Phoenix Film Festival. That same year he co-starred in the short-lived ABC drama "The Days," which aired just six episodes, and played a recurring role in several episodes of the Disney Channel series "Phil of the Future" (2004-2006).

In 2005, Peters landed his first role as a main cast member in a network series, co-starring as Jesse Varon in the ABC sci-fi thriller "Invasion." Despite positive reviews, the series lasted just one season. In 2008, he landed a recurring role as John "Jack" Daniels on the popular CW drama "One Tree Hill" (2003-2012). Around that time he also made numerous guest appearances on popular shows like "Monk" (2002-2009), "House" (2004-2012), "Ghost Whisperer" (2005-2010), "Criminal Minds" (2005-), "The Mentalist" (2008-2015), and "The Office" (2005-2013).

In 2010, he landed a supporting role in the hit superhero flick "Kick-Ass," playing a close buddy of would-be superhero Dave Lizewski. This highly visible role marked a turning point in his career, as the following year he landed the role that put him on the map.

In his earliest collaboration with Murphy, Peters portrayed the troubled teen Tate Langdon in the first season of FX's "American Horror Story" (2011-). The show was an instant hit, and he would go on to appear in eight more seasons of the anthology series.

By 2014 he was an established star, debuting in the massively popular "X-Men" film franchise as the speedy mutant Quicksilver (real name Peter Maximoff) in "X-Men: Days of Future Past." He played the character again in 2016's "X-Men: Apocalypse" and 2019's "Dark Phoenix" and made a cameo in 2018's "Deadpool 2." He later played the imposter "Pietro" Maximoff (real name Ralph Bohner) in the Marvel Cinematic Universe series "WandaVision" (2021) and "Agatha All Along" (2024).

In 2021, Peters earned some of the best reviews of his career co-starring alongside Kate Winslet in the HBO hit limited series "Mare of Easttown." Critics praised his performance as Detective Craig Zabel, and he went on to win the Primetime Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie. That same year, he appeared in the 10th season of "American Horror Story" titled "Double Feature."

He next starred in Murphy's controversial limited series "Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story" (2022). For his performance as the notorious serial killer, Peters earned a Primetime Emmy nomination and won a Golden Globe for Best Performance by an Actor in a Limited Series, Anthology Series, or Motion Picture Made for Television.

"The Beauty" will be Peters' fourth project with Murphy. Joining him in the cast is actress and filmmaker Rebecca Hall, who is known for her performances in the romantic dramedy "Vicky Cristina Barcelona" (2008) and the crime thriller "The Town" (2011). Ashton Kutcher, Isabella Rossellini, Anthony Ramos, Jeremy Pope, and Bella Hadid have also been announced as part of the cast.

Few details have been announced regarding "The Beauty," but the tagline for the six volumes of the graphic novels reads: “Modern society is obsessed with outward beauty. What if there was a way to guarantee you could become more and more beautiful every day? What if it was a sexually transmitted disease? In the world of "The Beauty," physical perfection is attainable. The vast majority of the population has taken advantage of it, but Detectives Foster and Vaughn will soon discover it comes at a terrible price.”

We do not have information yet on when FX will release "The Beauty," but keep following our blog, as we will report more information as it develops.
