How Broadway Stages Gives Back to Communities That Inspire Us – In Good Times and Bad

At the core of Broadway Stages’ business philosophy is a community focus based on steadfast values and a heritage steeped in principled tradition. Respect, trust, collaboration, resolve, and value-based business practices come together to provide relationship-driven client and community service that sets us apart and has established us as a leader in the community.

We are part of an industry that, as a whole, plays a critical role in creating thousands of jobs and generating economic growth by working with local businesses. While we have had to adjust to the impact of changing market trends, technological advancements, a global pandemic, simultaneous strikes, and an uncertain future, we have relied on our disciplined and adaptive business strategies to navigate the economic challenges that our industry is facing. And we look to the future with optimism – an optimism that includes our approach to giving back to the communities where we live and work.

When the industry is doing well, our communities do well. Local businesses thrive, as does philanthropy. In good times and bad, Broadway Stages has continued to support organizations and initiatives that benefit our community, and we work diligently to ensure we can continue making a positive impact. From combating hunger to supporting youth and workforce development programs, environmental education, and more, our focus on community remains.

Focused Giving Areas That Reflect Our Values

Social Programs and Food Security

We are dedicated to combating hunger by aiding social programs that provide nutritious food and comprehensive wraparound services. We work with local organizations to ensure no neighbor goes hungry and everyone can thrive. Some of the organizations we proudly work with to make this happen are:

Community Center Services Organization (CCSO) – Food Bank of Corona
CCSO is a volunteer-driven food bank fighting hunger in Corona by providing food, clothing, and other needed resources to families facing economic hardship. You can read more about it here.

The Campaign Against Hunger (TCAH)
TCAH tackles hunger and poverty across NYC through food access, health education, job training, and urban farming programs that empower the underserved.

North Brooklyn Angels
North Brooklyn Angels delivers nourishing meals and essential services via their mobile truck, connecting neighbors and strengthening the community through volunteer-driven efforts.

Through our giving, we help these groups provide thousands of area neighbors with reliable access to meals that honor their dignity and bring meaningful relief. Through the efforts of these organizations, we are seeing lives transformed, bodies nourished, and people uplifted every day!

Youth and Workforce Development and Education

Building career pipelines, expanding opportunities, and uplifting our neighbors — our giving is intended to make a difference. We build partnerships with local organizations that understand our community and enhance impact. Some of the ways we make this investment are by supporting organizations like:

Greenpoint YMCA to foster academic growth and enrichment for local youth.

Brooklyn Workforce Innovations to help prepare New Yorkers for meaningful careers with hands-on job training and placement.

Reel Works to mentor underserved youth, opening doors to careers in media and production.

Environmental Stewardship

Broadway Stages is also passionate about environmental stewardship, championing sustainability, conservation, and urban ecology across our production studio facilities. Our green roof gardens, solar energy panels, and restored habitats reduce emissions and impact urban restoration. We build greener, more resilient neighborhoods by creating accessible environmental education that inspires action and stewardship. Our efforts empower neighbors to protect and nurture the ecosystems around them. Here are some of the initiatives we have taken and the organizations with whom we work:

Eagle Street Rooftop Farm: New York City's first fully operational organic rooftop farm, promoting urban agriculture and environmental education. Read more here.

Kingsland Wildflowers Green Roof and Community Engagement Center: A 24,000-square-foot green roof habitat for native birds and pollinators, serving as both an ecological sanctuary and an educational resource. This blog tells you more.

Newtown Creek Alliance, Alive Structures, and NYC Bird Alliance: These organizations came together to help establish Kingsland Wildflowers, and today continue to promote sustainability and bird habitats across our rooftops and the city.

Broadway Stages' Solar Infrastructure and Green Roofs: Broadway Stages leads the way in sustainability with an extensive solar power system and expansive green roofs that reduce emissions, support wildlife, and set a green example for the industry.

These efforts are part of the Broadway Stages Green Corridor. This initiative aims to transform urban spaces into vibrant, sustainable environments that benefit both people and wildlife. Through innovative green infrastructure and cooperative partnerships, we're fostering cleaner air, thriving ecosystems, and beautiful public spaces that connect and uplift neighborhoods.

Community Betterment and Public Safety

Building safer, more connected neighborhoods is part of our mission. Through partnerships, we help build trust, foster collaboration, and improve the quality of life in our community. From local NYPD Community Council Precincts to non-profit neighborhood organizations that foster fellowship and meaningful local engagement, we proudly support civic events and neighborhood improvement efforts that bring people together and enhance shared spaces.

Arts and Culture

And, of course, we proudly support arts and culture as vital forces that enrich our neighbors and inspire creative expression. By backing visual and performing arts events, festivals, and nonprofit collaborations, we help bring diverse voices and stories to life. Our commitment fosters inclusion, celebrates creativity, and strengthens the cultural fabric across boroughs. We help make space for creativity to flourish wherever we can.
