SIEDC Green & Clean Was a Sweep

Green-Clean-Festival.jpg

The Staten Island Zoo was the location of this past weekend's Green & Clean Festival hosted by the Staten Island Economic Development Corporation (SIEDC). A day-long marketplace, sustainable businesses and organizations showcased their services and spread information about sustainability and environmental awareness.

As a member of the Board of SIEDC, Broadway Stages is proud to have supported this event and to help promote the value of sustainability. In fact, our very own green roof project was represented by Niki Jackson of the NYC Audubon on behalf of Kingsland Wildflowers at Broadway Stages, along with Monica Holowacz, Community Relations Director at Broadway Stages. It's Time to Think About Summer and Camp Brooklyn

Screenshot (118).png

The Camp Brooklyn Fund is on a mission to give kids from low-income families in Brooklyn the opportunity to attend sleep-away camp. Why you may ask? Because camp can transform lives, families, and our community. And just $750 will send one child to camp for two amazing weeks during the summer. An experience of a lifetime, camp can open up a world of opportunities and build character. Teamwork, loyalty, wholesome health habits, responsibility, personal respect, and appreciation for nature are all part of a child's education at summer camp.

Please take a few minutes to watch the 2018 Camp Brooklyn Fund video and see for yourself the impact that camp is making on our children. As a member of the board of The Camp Brooklyn Fund, Broadway Stages invites you to support our mission. Please donate today!.

The Business Insider was given a special sneak peek inside the Arthur Kill Prison at the Staten Island Stages, LLC facility on Staten Island. Shows and films like "Orange is the New Black," "Daredevil," and "Ocean's 8" have used this facility as a backdrop for their story lines, needing an authentic penitentiary vibe.

The 69-acre Arthur Kill campus, located in the Charleston section of Staten Island, was acquired in 2017. Plans are underway for upgrades and construction of additional sound stages. We're excited to see the full potential of this facility and to realize the economic growth it will bring to Staten Island.

Check out the story and take your own sneak peek inside the Arthur Kill Prison at The Business Insider.

Broadway Stages Provides Property to North Brooklyn Community Boathouse

The North Brooklyn Community Boathouse (NBCB) has announced they will break ground on a new boathouse and environmental education center along Newtown Creek. The new facility is made possible by the generous support of Gina and Tony Argento of Broadway Stages, and a grant administered by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation and City Parks Foundation. The new boathouse will be located on the same lot that has been home to NBCB for the last seven seasons – property owned by Broadway Stages and gratuitously loaned to the non-profit organization.

Construction is set to begin this spring with anticipated completion in the third quarter of 2020. The new 8,000 square foot, five-story boathouse will offer kayak and canoe storage, boatbuilding, an environmental education center, and access to the waterfront. NBCB, as well as other groups and non-profit organizations focused on the ecology of Newtown Creek, will occupy three of the five floors, while Broadway Stages will use the remaining two floors.

“Our new boathouse will be the biggest and most sophisticated boathouse in New York City with launch access like no other in the City,” said Dewey Thompson, President and Founder of the North Brooklyn Community Boathouse. “We are so grateful to Tony and Gina Argento and the rest of the Broadway Stages team for making this possible, and for their sustained commitment and generosity to us and to the entire Greenpoint community.”

“The North Brooklyn Community Boathouse has been part of our community for many years, and we’re pleased to support their vision of operating out of a proper facility,” said Gina Argento, President and CEO of Broadway Stages. “Our commitment to community is a cornerstone of our business philosophy, its who we are. We’re proud to be able to use our property along the Creek in a way that brings value to members of our community,” stated Tony Argento, Founder of Broadway Stages.
